GRE spec

hi,

I think I've located a pretty good candidate for a GRE spec. Unfortunately,
I don't have the spec in electronic form (and IEEE doesn't put these
things online). I suspect that only Bob Blakley might be able to lay his hands
on a copy before the conference call tomorrow. The reference is:

	9945-2:1993 (ISO/IEC) Information Technology-Portable Operating
System Interface (POSIX)-Part2: Shell and Utilities
	IEEE/ANSI Std 1003.2-1992 & IEEE/ANSI 1003.2a-1992
Section 2.8, pages 77-91, "Regular Expression Notation"
(Note: POSIX is now known as PASC)

This spec has the advantage of being an actual standard as opposed to
something one might find Unix or Perl documentation. In addition, it seems to
be a better "quality" spec. compared to Unix or Perl documentation.

With this spec, we could choose either the Basic Regular Expression (BRE)
notation, or the Extended Regular Expression (ERE) notation. The basic
difference is that ERE supports "+", "?", and "|".
